Match Points 8/27/10: Win, Lose, or Draw!
With the U.S. Open draws now fully public, there’s lots of chatter in the web-o-sphere. And last night’s Taste of Tennis event gave us all a little something to nibble on while we mulled over our predictions.
Here are the big headlines:
- We found a couple clever breakdowns around the net today. Here’s one from Forehand Shanker and another from the Go To Tennis blog. Read up, readers.
- There’s been a lot of talk about Andy Murray. First off, will his big decision in coaching make a big difference this year? Will he be the first Brit in more than a century to win at Flushing Meadows? And will he, oh will he, give away any more signed T-shirts on Twitter? [Independent, World Tennis Magazine, and NYTimes]
- Sadly, del Potro has announced he will not be competing at the Open this year. So … what will he be doing? [Your Volleys Suck]
- The most American of museums, the Smithsonian, had big news today—John Isner has donated one of his racquets from the famous marathon-match to their permanent collection. Classy. [SI.edu]
- John McEnroe set off some waves of scandal with his comments on WTA. Spoler: he thinks the women’s season should be shorter and easier, because their delicate bodies can’t take it. [ESPN]
- But let’s finish with something sweet. Check out Rich’s coverage from the Taste of Tennis last night. Yummy!
